Enhanced 911
Fully Enhanced 911 was
cut over in Louisville and Jefferson County on October 1, 1997.
Fully Enhanced 911 consist
of Automatic Number Identification (ANI) and Automatic Location Identification
(ALI). Therefore if the call gets interrupted the call taker has an address to
go along with the phone number.
This upgrade coupled with
the merger of EMS, Louisville Metro Police and Jefferson County Fire and
Louisville Division of Fire into the MetroSafe Communications center provided
the resident’s of Louisville/Jefferson County Metro faster service.
Now all calls are
selectively routed to the MetroSafe Telecommunications Center. No longer are
your emergency calls picked up at one location and transferred to another after
inquiring the nature of the emergency. The only exceptions to this are the
Cities with their own emergency services, (i.e. Jeffersontown, Shively, etc.) in
this case the call is transferred to them based on the Emergency Service Number
(ESN).
